Biography:

The most well-known works by renowned Indian author and filmmaker Raaghav Dar are the musical comedy My Friend Pinto (2011), which was produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and the Netflix documentary Mumbai Mafia: Police Vs. The Underworld (2023). His narratives inject new life into Indian cinema by fusing comedy, melody, and gripping narratives with scathing societal criticism. Raaghav is a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India, and during Aspen Shortsfest, his iconic short film Bombay Summer (2004) received an Honorable Mention from BAFTA. He started his career as an associate director on Abbas Tyrewala’s (Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, 2008) and as an assistant director on Mani Ratnam’s (Guru, 2007).

Raaghav also penned the screenplay for Lamhaa: The Untold Story of Kashmir (2010), a political drama. His directorial debut, My Friend Pinto (2011), a musical comedy produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was the result of this foundation. The film, which was praised for its stylish storytelling and oddball humor, established Raaghav as a new star in independent filmmaking. The documentary, which looked at Mumbai’s underworld from a new angle and received accolades for its compelling story and cinematic approach, was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2023 Filmfare OTT Awards. Raaghav is renowned for his ability to fluidly integrate genres with local roots; his work alternates between neo-noir stylizations, regional political storylines, satire, and documentaries.
