Indian cinematographer R. B. Gurudev has experience in the Tamil film industry. Gurudev made his acting debut with Yogi (2009), although TN 07 AL 4777 (2009) was released earlier, having trained under Jeeva.
Although Gurudev has produced several critically acclaimed films, his projects have not always been financially successful. A critic from The Hindu stated that Gurudev “proves that he is from the late Jeeva’s school, panning his camera in style he offers a brilliant visual treat” for his work in Chikku Bukku (2010).
Similarly, a reviewer of Ameer’s Aadhi Bhagavan observed that “every scene has been picturised tastefully” and that “cinematography by K. Devaraj and R. B. Gurudev is an absolute treat to the eye,” regardless of whether the setting is set in Mumbai, the Rajasthani deserts, Pattaya beaches, or gorgeous Goa.[4] In a similar vein, Megha (2014) acknowledged his performance as one of its few “bright spots.”
Eighty percent of the filming of the highly popular Kanchana 2 (2015) was handled by Gurudev. He had agreed to work on Irumbu Kuthirai (2014), thus he was unable to continue shooting due to a delay in the movie. To Gurudev’s dismay, Raghava Lawrence chose to work with a different cinematographer to complete Kanchana 2 since he couldn’t wait.
