Prem Prakash

Biography:

Cherian Joseph, widely recognized by his stage name Prem Prakash, is an Indian actor and producer primarily associated with the Malayalam entertainment industry. Renowned for his supporting and character roles in television serials, he has also made a significant impact as a producer, with 19 Malayalam films to his credit. Among his close circles, he is affectionately known as Kariachan.

Prem Prakash pursued his education at SB College, Changanacherry, and CMS College, Kottayam. He began his acting career in 1970 with the film Ara Nazhika Neram. As a producer, he made his debut in 1979 with Peruvazhiyambalam, the directorial debut of P. Padmarajan, which also marked the acting debut of Ashokan. The film received critical acclaim, prompting him to produce 17 more films. Notable among these are Koodevide, Akashadoothu, Johnnie Walker, Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum, and Ayalum Njanum Thammil, all of which cemented his reputation as a successful producer.

In 2015, Prem Prakash received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actor for his performance in Nirnayakam. Additionally, he is credited with introducing several talents to the Malayalam film industry, including actors Rashin Rahman, Biju Menon, N.F. Varghese, and Jyothirmayi; lyricist Gireesh Puthenchery; music director A.J. Joseph; and director Jude Attipetty.
