Poornachandra Tejaswi

Biography:

Kuppali Puttappa Poornachandra Tejaswi was a well-known Indian author and Kannada novelist who lived from 8 September 1938 to 5 April 2007. In addition, he was a painter, photographer, publisher, environmentalist, and naturalist. With his collection of short stories, Abachoorina Post Offisu, he established the Bandaaya Saahitya genre of protest literature and made a significant impact during the Navya (“new”) period of Kannada literature. He is the son of Kuvempu, a well-known Kannada poet.

Tejaswi wrote poetry in the beginning of his literary career before focusing on essays, novels, and short tales. A new age in Kannada literature is said to have been ushered in by his unique writing style. On September 8, 1938, Tejaswi was born in Kuppalli, in the Karnataka district of Shimoga. Despite being Kuvempu’s son, he emerged from his father’s shadow and made a name for himself early on. In the Prajavani Kannada newspaper’s Deepavali celebration, Tejaswi won the best story prize for his debut short tale, “Linga Banda,” which depicts the wet Western Ghats via a boy’s perspective.

He purchased a coffee estate in Mudigere taluk of Chikkamangaluru District after completing his studies at Maharaja College of Mysore, one of the best universities in India, because he was interested in farming and the outdoors. In addition to writing, he was a prolific painter, photographer, and philosopher. He was an avid student of the natural world, and exploring the Western Ghats’ forests was his favorite activity.
