Philip Barantini

Biography:

Philip Barantini is an English filmmaker, director, producer, writer and previously actor who specializes in one-take film-making approach and dramatic story telling. He began his acting career playing memorable parts in films such as Dream Team, Band of Brothers and Chernobyl before becoming a director. In a very short time, he became one of the most interesting directors of contemporary England. Inspired by his past as a chef, Philip Barantini co-authored and directed one-take drama called Boiling Point (2021).

Taking a cue from his successful film, he wrote and directed the BBC TV series Boiling Point (2023), which is an extension of the well-received feature film. He also made his directing debut for the television medium in the season finale of the BBC crime drama The Responder (2022), and subsequently went on to direct the ITV medical drama Malpractice (2023). He then directed Adolescence (2025), the groundbreaking limited series by Netflix, where each episode was shot in a single continuous take. The show was a huge critical success and won Barantini his Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing. He is currently signed up to direct Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix. With his unique immersive visual sense, impeccable long-take direction, and deeply realistic character arcs, Philip Barantini has established himself as one of the most accomplished filmmakers in modern British cinema and television.
