Biography:

Periya Karuppu, also known as PKT, was a renowned Tamil film character artist and folk singer, known for his contributions to the Tamil-language film industry. His career was deeply rooted in the world of performing arts, initially as part of a drama troupe organized by the veteran Sankaradoss Swamigal over five decades ago. Before making his mark in films, PKT had already established himself as a popular figure in the theater scene, recognized both for his acting prowess and his folk singing talents.

Over the course of his film career, spanning several decades, PKT graced the screen with his presence in more than 200 films. His notable roles included performances in films like Bharathiraaja’s “Mann Vasanai” and Gangai Amaren’s “Karagattakkaran,” which featured memorable songs composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Beyond acting, PKT showcased his singing abilities, including a festival song in Kamal Haasan’s “Virumandi.”

PKT’s legacy extended to his family as well, as one of his sons, Virumandi, followed in his footsteps and made his directorial debut with the film “Ka Pae Ranasingam” in 2020. His influence and contributions left a lasting impact on the world of Tamil cinema and folk music.
