Nilesh Girkar

Biography:

Nilesh Dashrath Girkar, an Indian screenwriter, is actively engaged in crafting scripts for both Hindi and Telugu films. His journey commenced with the writing of “Agyaat” (2009), a film directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Subsequently, he contributed to Varma’s projects, including “Department” (2012), “Sarkar 3,” and Nana Patekar’s “Ab Tak Chhappan 2” (2015).

Born and raised in a middle-class family in Mumbai, Girkar developed a profound passion for Bollywood during his formative years. After completing his Physics degree from the University of Mumbai, he initially pursued a career in Quality Assurance at a Medical Transcription BPO in Mumbai. However, his encounter with Boman Irani on the set of the “Bollywood Ka Boss Filmy Gyan Quiz Show” in 2008 prompted him to shift his focus to screenplay writing.

Prior to embracing screenwriting full-time, Girkar assisted Marathi Theater writer/director Devendra Pem for two years, contributing to the theatrical play “Lali-Lila.” His involvement in Marathi Theater included diverse roles such as acting, backstage work, and various capacities for one-act plays. While still employed at the medical transcription firm, Girkar penned his inaugural script.

His breakthrough arrived when he secured an opportunity with Ram Gopal Varma’s Dreamforce Enterprise for “Agyaat” in 2009. Girkar faced a writing credit dispute with Ram Gopal Varma concerning the movie “Sarkar 3,” a conflict that he eventually triumphed over. This incident underscored his commitment to the integrity of his work and creative contributions to the film industry.
