Mugen Rao

Biography:

Born on October 20, 1995, Mugen Rao is an actor and singer from Malaysia who mostly plays the lead in Tamil movies. He took part in and won the 2019 season of the reality show Bigg Boss 3. He is also well-known for his leading parts in movies like Velan (2021) and Ghora (2018).

He sang in fifty theater productions after starting his career with his stage-singer father. After making his acting debut in the Malay TV series Senandung Malam, he went on to play minor roles in TV movies, short films, advertisements, and movies like Gerak Khas and Ghora.

When Rao’s song video “Kayalvizhi” got viral on YouTube in 2016, his career took off.  Using virtual production technology, he later produced music videos for “Anbe Aruyire,” “Pogiren,” “Mayakkurriye,” and “Oththa Thamarai” in 2022.

In 2020, he agreed to a three-film contract and was revealed to play a major part in Vettri. In Kavin Moorthy’s film Velan, which was released in December 2021, he portrayed the lead role. He started filming Mathil Mel Kadhal with Divya Bharathi in 2022.  Later on, he costarred with actress Bhavaya Trikha in the TR Bala-directed movie Jinn: The Pet (2025).
