Mithran Jawahar, born on 8 June 1979, is a prominent Indian film director with a focus on Tamil cinema. Having served as an assistant to the acclaimed Selvaraghavan, Jawahar commenced his directorial journey in December 2004, initially working on a film starring Dhanush.
Although this project, a remake of the Telugu film Arya (2004), faced delays and pauses, it eventually materialized into his debut venture, “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” in 2008. This film, also a remake of Selvaraghavan’s Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, proved to be a resounding success.
Following this triumph, Jawahar directed two more successful films, “Kutty” (2010) and “Uthamaputhiran” (2010), both remakes featuring Dhanush in the lead role. In 2014, he embarked on the project “Saamiyattam,” a remake of the Telugu film “Swamy Ra Ra,” but unfortunately, it was shelved.
Undeterred, Jawahar then helmed the remake of the Malayalam film “Thattathin Marayathu,” titled “Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai,” in 2016. Breaking from the trend of remakes, he ventured into original content with the 2021 social drama “Mathil,” featuring director-actor K. S. Ravikumar in the lead role for the digital platform Zee5.
Continuing his success streak, Jawahar directed “Thiruchitrambalam” in 2022, marking his fourth collaboration with Dhanush, which achieved significant success at the box office. Looking ahead to 2023, he directed “Ariyavan,” the debut film of actor Ishaaon and the Tamil debut of actress Pranali Ghogare, showcasing his continued prowess in the Tamil film industry.
