Matilda De Angelis

Biography:

Matilda De Angelis (born September 11, 1995) is an Italian actress and singer, recognized for her roles in films such as Italian Race (2016) and Rose Island (2020), the latter earning her both a David di Donatello and a Nastri d’Argento award.

On television, she gained recognition for her roles in the Netflix series The Law According to Lidia Poët (2023–2024) and the HBO miniseries The Undoing (2020). In addition to acting, De Angelis has contributed vocals to soundtracks and released solo singles, including a collaboration with Elisa on the song “Litoranea.”

De Angelis began playing guitar and violin at 13 and attended the liceo scientifico “Enrico Fermi” in Bologna. In 2011, she joined the band Rumba de Bodas, which released an album, Karnaval Fou, in 2014.

In 2015, director Matteo Rovere cast her as the lead in Italian Race (2016), her first major role. For this performance, she received a 2017 David di Donatello nomination for Best Actress and also wrote and sang the film’s song “Seventeen,” which was nominated for Best Original Song. She won a Flaiano Prize and a Nastro d’argento for Best Newcomer.

In 2017, De Angelis appeared in the ensemble comedy The Prize, and in 2018, she starred in Youtopia, playing a teenage girl who sells her virginity online to help her family.

In 2020, she starred in the HBO miniseries The Undoing and the Netflix film Rose Island, for which she won the David di Donatello for Best Supporting Actress.

De Angelis co-hosted the 2021 Sanremo Music Festival with Amadeus. That year, she appeared in the films A Bookshop in Paris and Atlas, the latter earning her the Best Actress Award at the Taormina Film Fest. In 2022, she starred in Robbing Mussolini and appeared with Liev Schreiber in the film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s Across the River and into the Trees. That year, she also collaborated with Elisa on the song “Litoranea,” which became her first certified hit by FIMI.

In 2023, she played the lead role in The Law According to Lidia Poët, earning a Nastro d’argento nomination for Best Actress, and the series won Best Crime Series. She also starred in the Amazon Prime Video series Citadel: Diana (2023–2024).

In 2024, De Angelis was cast in Luc Besson’s Dracula: A Love Tale, set for release in 2025. Since 2022, she has been in a relationship with Alessandro De Santis, singer and frontman of the musical duo Santi Francesi. They got engaged in 2024.
