Mysore Srikantayya Umesh is an Indian Kannada film actor with a career spanning more than 60 years. He is often referred to as M. S. Umesh or just Umesh.[1] He was cast as the main character in the 1960 movie Makkala Rajya after having performed in a number of stage productions as a child. He has acted in more than 350 feature films since then. Umesh is well known for his distinct facial expressions, language delivery, and comedic timing.
On April 24, 1945, A. L. Srikantayya and Nanjamma welcomed Umesh into the world. He received his elementary education in Mysore, where he developed an interest in theater and stage productions. He joined K. Hirannaiah’s well-known theater group when he was four years old. As a child artist, he soon joined the more well-known Gubbi Veeranna’s group and played a variety of roles. Then-assistant director Puttanna Kanagal saw him in one of these stage plays and suggested him for B. R. Panthulu’s upcoming movie.
In 1960, Umesh made his cinematic debut in Makkala Rajya, which was helmed by legendary actor-director B. R. Panthulu under the Padmini film banner. Additionally, this was M. V. Rajamma’s second film production.[Reference required] Sivaji Ganesan, a prominent Tamil actor, also had a brief appearance in this movie.
