Lee Joo-sil ( 8 March 1944 – 2 February 2025) was a South Korean actress known for her work in film, television, and theater. She gained recognition for portraying Hwang Jun-ho’s mother in the second season of the dystopian survival thriller Squid Game.
Her acting career began in live theater in 1965, and she later won the Best Theatre Actress award at the 24th Baeksang Arts Awards. In addition to her artistic achievements, she earned a doctorate in public health from Wonkwang University in 2010.
Lee was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 but fully recovered after a decade. In November 2024, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer and passed away at her family home in Uijeongbu on 2 February 2025, at the age of 80.
