Latha Hamsalekha, also known as Latha Hamsalekha Kumar, is an accomplished playback singer in the South Indian film industry. Born in Bangalore to Mitrananda Kumar and Sharada, she initially began her musical journey as an orchestra singer in the ‘Gaana Sharada’ troupe, owned by G. Balakrishna, the elder brother of renowned music composer Hamsalekha.
Her breakthrough in playback singing came with the chart-topping track “Nodamma Hudugi” from the 1987 film “Premaloka.” Most of her significant songs have been composed by Hamsalekha, showcasing her versatile singing talent. Some of her memorable hits include “Hasiru Gajina Balegale” (from “Avane Nanna Ganda”), “Kaveri Theeradalli Mungarige” (from “Chaitrada Premanjali”), “Akaradalli Gulabi Rangide” (from “Anjada Gandu”), and “Collegegu Thanks” (from “Joot”).
