Karan Ravi Malhotra is an Indian filmmaker renowned for his work on the action crime drama Agneepath (2012) and the upcoming Shahenshah (2025). He is the son-in-law of screenwriter Ekta Pathak, and they have a child together.
Before making his mark as a director, Malhotra served as an assistant director on notable films like Jodhaa Akbar, My Name Is Khan, and Jaan-E-Mann. His debut directorial venture was Agneepath (2012), a remake of the 1990 film of the same name, which he co-wrote and directed with Yash Johar and Karan Johar as producers.
In 2015, he directed Brothers, a Hindi adaptation of the American film Warrior (2011), featuring Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Jackie Shroff. In May 2018, Yash Raj Films announced Malhotra as the director of Shamshera (2022), a period action film set in 1891, depicting the struggle of the Khameran tribe against British colonizers. The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, faced mixed reviews and controversy over its portrayal of a Hindu villain and did not perform well at the box office.
Malhotra’s upcoming project is Shahenshah (2025), a remake of the 1988 classic, produced by Tinu Verma, Bitu Anand, Inder Raj Anand, Naresh Malhotra, Dharma Productions, Filmkraft Productions, and Hiroo Yash Johar.
