Joanne Froggatt is a British actress who was born on August 23, 1980. She won the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for three Emmys for her role as Anna Bates in the ITV period drama series Downton Abbey, which ran from 2010 to 2015. She played Laura Nielson in the ITV/Sundance drama series Liar from 2017 to 2020.
Her role as Zoe Tattersall in the soap drama Coronation Street (1997–1998) catapulted Froggatt to fame. She portrayed Sam Tyler’s mother, Ruth Tyler, in the first UK run of the British TV series Life on Mars, a fantasy police drama (2006). Before taking home the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her lead in In Our Name (2010), she starred in the television movies Danielle Cable: Eyewitness (2003), See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006), and Murder in the Outback (2007). A Street Cat Named Bob (2016), Mary Shelley (2017), Filth (2013), and Downton Abbey (2019) are among her other cinematic credits.
