Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Biography:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (born April 22, 1966) is an American actor best known for portraying Negan Smith in The Walking Dead (2016–2022) and its spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City (2023–present), earning critical acclaim. He has also played significant television roles, including John Winchester in Supernatural (2005–2007; 2019), Denny Duquette in Grey’s Anatomy (2006–2009), Jason Crouse in The Good Wife (2015–2016), and Joe Kessler in The Boys (2024–present).

Morgan’s film credits include P.S. I Love You (2007), Watchmen (2009) as the Comedian, The Losers (2010), Red Dawn (2012), and Rampage (2018). He also starred in Texas Rising (2015), a miniseries about the war for Texas’ independence.

Born in Seattle, Washington, to Sandy Thomas and Richard Dean Morgan, he grew up in Kirkland, Washington. He attended Lake Washington High School and briefly played basketball at Skagit Valley College before a leg injury ended his sports aspirations. A move to Los Angeles led him to discover acting, where he transitioned from writing and painting to performing.

Morgan’s television career includes guest roles in ER, JAG, Walker, Texas Ranger, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The O.C., and Monk. In 2005–2006, he appeared in three major shows simultaneously: Supernatural, Grey’s Anatomy, and Weeds. He later took on a lead role in Magic City (2012) and played Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

Outside acting, Morgan has been involved in various ventures. In 2017, he drove the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500 and appeared in commercials for Evony. He lent his voice to Negan in Tekken 7.

Morgan married actress Anya Longwell in 1992; they divorced in 2003. He was briefly engaged to Mary-Louise Parker in 2007. In 2009, he started dating actress Hilarie Burton after being introduced by Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles. They have a son (born 2010) and a daughter (born 2018) and married in 2019. They live on a 100-acre farm in Rhinebeck, New York, raising animals. Morgan co-owns Samuel’s Sweet Shop in Rhinebeck with Paul Rudd, a business they saved from closure.

In 2019, Morgan purchased an apartment in NoHo, Manhattan.
