Biography:

Indian actress Janani, formerly known as Janani Iyer, primarily works in Malayalam and Tamil films. Her first motion picture appearance was in the 2011 Tamil feature film Avan Evan. Among her noteworthy motion pictures are 7th Day (2014) and Thegidi (2014). In the 2018 season of Bigg Boss Tamil 2, she finished as the third runner-up.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu’s Kathivakkam is where Janani Iyer was born. She attended DAV Gopalapuram for her education, and Saveetha Engineering College in Chennai is where she earned her B.E. in computer science and engineering. She was awarded a seat at Wollongong University in Australia following her undergraduate studies. She abandoned her academic plan to join the cast of Avan Ivan. She omitted Iyer from her name in 2014 because of caste.

She started modeling after finishing her education and made appearances in more than 150 local television commercials. But Janani said that her “passion in life” has always been performing, and she had always wanted to be an actress. She made brief cameos as a model in Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru (2009) and as K. S. Ravikumar’s assistant director in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) during her modeling career.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was the second lead actress she had originally signed, but Samantha Ruth Prabhu ended up playing her role. In early 2010, Janani went to an audition for director Bala, who was searching for a Tamil-speaking newbie to play the lead female role in his film project, Avan Ivan (2011), at the suggestion of director A. L. Vijay. Bala signed her for the part after hearing her audition, stating that he thought she “fits into the role”. Janani played an innocent police constable opposite Vishal in the comedy-drama movie, and critics gave her a favorable assessment for the role.

Her subsequent film release, Paagan (2013), featured her opposite Srikanth. “Janani Iyer looks beautiful and it is a relief to watch a Tamil girl speaking in her own voice,” a Sify critic commented. With 3 Dots, she also made her screen debut in Malayalam, despite the movie’s poor box office performance.

She starred with Ashok Selvan in the critically acclaimed crime thriller Thegidi in 2014, which became an unexpected box office hit. “Janani Iyer is sweet and plays her part perfectly as Madhu the innocent girl,” wrote an IndiaGlitz.com critic.

She gave priority to working on Malayalam films while she awaited better offers from the Tamil film industry. Notably, she acted in movies like 3 Dots (2013), which starred Kunchacko Boban, 7th Day (2014), which was a commercial success, and Koothara (2014), which starred Mohanlal and Bharath. In the follow-up projects Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal (2014) and Ithu Thaanda Police (2016), she also starred opposite actor Asif Ali. During that time, Edison Photos, a Malayalam movie starring Nivin Pauly, was canceled.

In 2017, Janani returned to the Tamil film industry with roles in the horror comedy Balloon and the mystery feature Adhe Kangal. The much-awaited Vidhi Madhi Ultaa (2018) was released in theaters the next year, however it was a box office bust. She made an appearance on Star Vijay’s Bigg Boss Tamil 2, a Tamil television reality show presented by Kamal Haasan, in 2018.
