Biography:

English actress Geraldine James was born on July 6, 1950. She has done a lot of work in theater, cinema, and television. She is well-known for her parts as Queen Mary in the 2019 movie Downton Abbey, Marilla Cuthbert in the Netflix series Anne with an E (2017–2019), and Sarah Layton in The Jewel in the Crown (1984). For her role in the television movie She’s Been Away, she was awarded the Volpi Cup for Best Actress.

Geraldine James Thomas was born on July 6, 1950, in Maidenhead, Berkshire. Her parents are cardiologist Gerald Trevor Griffith Thomas and Annabella Doogan. Her parents separated.[3] She attended Downe House School in Newbury, Berkshire, where she was known as Gerry Thomas, after failing her 11-plus exam. During her time at the school, she went by the more formal-sounding name Vaughan-Thomas because she was ashamed of her basic surname. She uses her middle name, James, in her stage name.
