Gaia Scodellaro

Biography:

Actress and dancer Gaia Scodellaro was born in Naples on July 15, 1985. Scodellaro is the daughter of African-American dancer Karen Ford and a former Neapolitan male model. Her family relocated to the Bronx, New York, after she spent her first ten years of life in Naples. She studied acting, dancing, and singing after being greatly inspired by her mother’s dancing abilities. She returned to Naples in 2005 and worked in these disciplines for the first time. She made her Berlin debut with a burlesque called “Ambrosia” in 2009. She has appeared in a number of Italian television shows since 2010, including the web series Stuck: The Chronicles of David Rea and Cugino & Cugino.

She had her breakthrough in Italy as Frida Baroni in the soap opera CentoVetrine. She appeared with the majority of the soap opera cast in the 2013 movie Un’insolita vendemmia (An Unusual Harvest). She costarred with Marco Bocci in Watch Them Fall that same year. She played Lara in the cast of That Dirty Black Bag in 2022. She played Aminah alongside Denzel Washington in Antoine Fuqua’s 2023 film The Equaliser 3, which was her first significant international project. The film took place in Scodellaro’s hometown of Naples on the Amalfi Coast.
