In addition to being the founder and director of BOFTA Film Institute, G. Dhananjayan (GD) is an Indian film producer, distributor, columnist, and author of four books on Indian cinema. Sankat City (2009), Kanden Kadhalai (2009), Mugamoodi (2012), Anjaan (2014), Irudhi Suttru (2016), Kaatrin Mozhi (2018), Kabadadaari (2021), Kodiyil Oruvan (2021), and numerous other films are among the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi films he has produced. Two National Film Awards have been given to him.
G. Dhananjayan received his Ph.D. from Mumbai University in March 2019 for his work on the Indian film industry. He also has an MBA from Sydenham Institute of Management SIMSREE, University of Mumbai (1991 batch).
Before joining Moser Baer Entertainment in 2006, he spent more than 15 years working for Asian Paints Ltd., Kansai Nerolac Paints, Saregama, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone. Prior to becoming the CEO of the film business, Dhananjayan served as the company’s chief operating officer for the home video business.
In April 2006, GD was one of the two original members of Moser Baer Entertainment. For the purpose of launching DVDs and VCDs under the Moser Baer name, GD obtained the copyright/marketing rights for more than 10,000 movie titles in ten languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi—in less than six months. This made it possible to compete with illegal versions of DVDs, which are usually sold for extremely low costs.
