Biography:

Francis Ford Coppola is a highly regarded American film director, writer, producer, and wine maker who has become one of the most influential directors of the New Hollywood era. He was born on April 7, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan and after studying theatre and film making he became a successful screenwriter and director. At the age of 31 he achieved the first success writing the screenplay for Patton (1970) for which he received an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Then his first directorial work was The Godfather (1972), a film based on the novel by Mario Puzo that has become a masterpiece of American cinema. He then made such films as The Conversation (1974) and The Godfather Part II (1974).

Coppola became the recipient of the Academy Award for Best Director for The Godfather Part II which also got the Best Picture Oscar, thus becoming one of the founders of the New Hollywood era. Then he directed such major films as Apocalypse Now (1979), The Outsiders (1983), Rumble Fish (1983), The Cotton Club (1984), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), and Megalopolis (2024). Apocalypse Now has been highly appreciated and it received the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Throughout his long film career Francis Ford Coppola got many Academy Awards and Golden Globes as well as he made an enormous influence in the film industry through his production company American Zoetrope.
