Actress Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in England on April 15, 1990. Renowned for her parts in independent and box office hits, she has won several awards, such as three MTV Movie Awards and a Young Artist Award. Time magazine called Watson one of the 100 most influential persons in the world in 2015, while Forbes and Vanity Fair have put her among the highest-paid actresses in the world.
Watson trained as an actor at the Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in Oxford and attended the Dragon School. Having only performed in school productions before, she shot to fame as a youngster when she was cast in her first professional acting role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series.
With her roles as a star in Ballet Shoes (2007) and voice actress in The Tale of Despereaux (2008), Watson made her first significant steps outside of the Potter series. Following the release of the last Harry Potter movie, she starred in My Week with Marilyn (2011) as a supporting part before enjoying critical acclaim for her portrayal of flirty, free-spirited student Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012).

She had only performed in school plays until winning her first professional acting part as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, which catapulted her to celebrity as a young youngster.
Starring in Ballet Shoes (2007) and lending her voice to The Tale of Despereaux (2008), Watson made her first significant steps away from the Harry Potter series. She starred as a flirty, free-spirited teenager named Sam in the critically acclaimed film The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) after acting in the final Harry Potter movie.
Her roles as Alexis Neiers in Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring (2013) and the title character’s adopted daughter in Darren Aronofsky’s historical epic Noah (2014) brought her more praise. Watson was named British Artist of the Year by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in that same year. Additionally, she portrayed Belle in the live-action romantic fantasy musical Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Meg March in Greta Gerwig’s 2019 coming-of-age drama Little Women.
Watson worked on movies and went to school from 2011 to 2014; in May of that year, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Brown University. She was named a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in that year and assisted in the beginning of the UN Women program HeForShe, which promotes gender equality.
She was a founder member of Time’s Up UK when it was founded in 2018. In 2019, Watson was selected to a G7 women’s rights advisory committee, where she provided foreign policy advice to leaders. She has modeled for Lancôme and Burberry advertisements, among others. She also gave her name to a range of clothes for the eco-friendly company People Tree. As an advocate for sustainable fashion, she joined the board of directors of the luxury brand company Kering in 2020.
The English attorneys Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby welcomed Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson into the world on April 15, 1990, in Paris. Up until the age of five, Watson resided in Maisons-Laffitte, close to Paris. When Watson was young, her parents split, and she went to Oxfordshire, England, to live with her mother. She often spent weekends at her father’s home in London.
Although “not as well” as she used to, Watson claims she can speak a little bit of French. Following her mother and brother’s relocation to Oxford, she enrolled in the Dragon School and stayed there until 2003. She began training at the Oxford location of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theater school, where she learned acting, dancing, and singing, at the age of six because she wanted to be an actress.
Watson had never acted professionally before the Harry Potter series, although by the time she was ten years old, she had participated in school plays and Stagecoach productions including Arthur: The Young Years and The Happy Prince. Watson proceeded to Headington School in Oxford after leaving the Dragon School. She and her co-stars received up to five hours of tutoring each day while they were on site.
She sat the GCSE school exams in June 2006, scoring two A and eight A*s in 10 subjects. She studied English, geography, art, and history of art for her AS levels in May 2007. She abandoned History of Art the next year in order to focus on the three A levels, and she did well in all of them.
After completing high school, Watson took a year off to film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2, starting in February 2009. However, she later stated that she intended to continue her education, citing her choice of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island [19]. Watson joined Worcester College, Oxford for the 2011–12 academic year as part of the Visiting Student Program, although she announced in March 2011 that she was delaying her study for “a semester or two” after spending 18 months at the university.
Before graduating in 2014, Watson revealed in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that her acting career caused her to “end up taking two full semesters off,” which is why her degree took five years to complete instead of four. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Brown University on May 25, 2014. She started a master’s program in creative writing at Oxford University in 2023.
