Actor and educator Douglas Reith is from Britain. His portrayal of Lord Merton in the television series Downton Abbey (2010–2015) and its three sequels is what made him most famous. Melton, Suffolk, is where Reith was born. He attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art to study acting. He made his acting debut in the late 1970s, costarring with Tatum O’Neal and Christopher Plummer in International Velvet (1978).
Before departing to study Greats at Christ Church, Oxford for four years starting in 1989, he spent five years as an announcer and presenter at BBC Radio 3. Before starting his acting career again, he was a teacher, including at Westminster School.
