Dominique McElligott (born March 5, 1986) is an Irish actress known for her work in television and film. She has held prominent roles in series such as Raw (2008), Hell on Wheels (2011–2012), The Astronaut Wives Club (2015), House of Cards (2016–2017), and The Last Tycoon (2016). She gained widespread recognition for portraying Maggie Shaw, also known as Queen Maeve, in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys (2019–2022) and its animated spin-off, The Boys Presents: Diabolical (2022).
Born and raised in Dublin, McElligott developed an interest in acting during her secondary school years and later graduated from University College Dublin. Her early career included starring roles in the film Moon (2009) and the RTÉ television series Raw before transitioning to Hollywood with Leap Year (2010). In 2011, she appeared in the critically acclaimed film The Guard and soon after played a leading role in the AMC series Hell on Wheels (2011–2012).
Her career continued to grow with roles in ABC’s The Astronaut Wives Club (2015) and Netflix’s House of Cards (2016–2017), where she portrayed Hannah Conway, the wife of a Republican presidential candidate. McElligott’s performance as Queen Maeve in The Boys cemented her as a key figure in the superhero genre, bringing depth and complexity to the character inspired by the original comic book series.
