Colm Feore
Biography:
Colm Feore was born on August 22, 1958, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Irish parents, Dr. Dermot Feore and Elaine Taylor. Shortly after his birth, the family returned to Ireland before emigrating to Canada in 1961, first settling in Ottawa and later moving to Windsor, Ontario. After graduating from Ridley College in St. Catharines, he trained at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal.
He developed his craft at the Stratford Festival, North America’s largest classical repertory theatre, where he spent 17 seasons rising from small roles to leads such as Romeo, Hamlet, Richard III, and Cyrano. He returned in later years to perform in productions including Don Juan, Oliver!, Macbeth (2009), Cyrano de Bergerac (2009), and King Lear (2014). His stage career has also included Broadway, where he played Cassius opposite Denzel Washington in Julius Caesar, and Off-Broadway as Claudius in Hamlet with Liev Schreiber.
In Canada, Feore is widely recognized for portraying Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in the acclaimed miniseries Trudeau, a role that earned him a Gemini Award. He also starred as pianist Glenn Gould in Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (1993) and as detective Martin Ward in the popular film Bon Cop, Bad Cop. He appeared in Slings and Arrows as a manipulative marketing executive, a recurring role that also aired on the Sundance Channel in the U.S.
Internationally, Feore has had supporting roles in numerous films, including Chicago, City of Angels, Pearl Harbor, The Sum of All Fears, Paycheck, and The Chronicles of Riddick. He played Andre Linoge in Stephen King’s Storm of the Century (1999), LAPD Chief James E. Davis in Changeling (2008), Laufey in Marvel’s Thor (2011), and Dr. Francis Dulmacher in Gotham (2014). He also appeared in 24 as Henry Taylor, The West Wing, Law & Order: SVU, and Friday the 13th: The Series.
Feore has received numerous honors, including honorary degrees from the University of Windsor (2002) and Wilfrid Laurier University (2012). In 2013, he received the Gascon-Thomas Award from the National Theatre School of Canada and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his bilingual contributions to stage and screen. He was later honored with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in Film (2019) and won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2021 for Sugar Daddy.
Married since 1994 to Donna Feore, a choreographer and theatre director with the Stratford Festival and National Arts Centre, he has two children with her, Thomas and Anna. From his earlier marriage to actress Sidonie Boll, he has a son, Jack. Feore is fluent in French.a
