Colin Firth

Biography:

Colin Firth is a well-known English actor renowned for performances in period drama, romantic movies, comedies, and modern cinematography. He was born on September 10, 1960, in Grayshott, Hampshire, England. He studied acting at the Drama Centre London and started his career in theatre and television. In the beginning of his career, Firth starred in A Month in the Country (1980), Tumbledown (1988), and became famous for starring in the TV series based on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” (1995) where he portrayed Mr. Darcy. He became a major international movie star thanks to the performances in such movies as “The English Patient” (1996), “Shakespeare in Love” (1998), “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (2001), “Love Actually” (2003), and “Mamma Mia!” (2008).

He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the performance in “The King’s Speech” (2010) where he played King George VI; that movie also won him BAFTA Award and Golden Globe. Another Oscar nomination for Colin Firth was awarded for the movie “A Single Man” (2009), directed by Tom Ford. Later, he starred in such movies as “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (2011), “The Railway Man” (2013), “Kingsman: The Secret Service” (2014), “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (2017), and “Supernova” (2020). Firth got two BAFTA Awards and many other international awards. His acting skills include understatement, intelligence, and capability of blending dramatic qualities with dry humor.
