Charlotte Rampling

Biography:

Actress Tessa Charlotte Rampling OBE was born in England on February 5, 1946. She started out as a model and became a symbol of the Swinging Sixties. She was chosen to play Meredith in the Lynn Redgrave-starring 1966 movie Georgy Girl. She quickly started producing arthouse films in France and Italy, including Liliana Cavani’s The Night Porter (1974) and Luchino Visconti’s The Damned (1969). She later starred in numerous English-language and European motion pictures, such as The Verdict (1982), Long Live Life (1984), Stardust Memories (1980), and The Wings of the Dove (1997). She became the muse of French filmmaker François Ozon in the 2000s, showing up in a number of his films, including Young & Beautiful (2013) and Swimming Pool (2003).

She received nominations for both a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Primetime Emmy Award in 2012 for her role in the miniseries Restless. She received the European Film Award for Best Actress, the Berlin Film Festival Award for Best Actress, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role in the 2015 movie 45 Years.

At the 74th Venice International Film Festival in 2017, she took home the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for Hannah.  In 2001, she was awarded an Honorary César, and in 2002, she was awarded the French Legion of Honor. She was awarded the 2015 European Film Awards Lifetime Achievement Award and was appointed an OBE in 2000 for her contributions to the arts. Qui Je Suis, her autobiography written in French, was published in 2015.  Later, she translated it into English, and the result was Who I Am, which came out in March 2017.
