Birsa Dasgupta

Biography:

Birsa Dasgupta is an Indian filmmaker, writer, producer, and actor who primarily directs feature films for Bengali cinema and web series for digital platforms. The son of film director Raja Dasgupta and actress Chaitali Dasgupta, Dasgupta has emerged as one of the leading contemporary Bengali directors of film and digital platforms due to his work which includes thrillers, dramas, comedies, and supernatural films. He started directing with the 033 film.

After that in 2014, he made Golpo Holeo Shotti, followed by, in 2015 he made the critically and commercially successful commercially successful Bengali film Shudhu Tomari Jonyo, also starring Dev and Srabanti.

In 2018, Dasgupta directed Crisscross, the commercial successful filmBibaho Obhijaan in 2019, commercial film Mukhosh in 2021 and 2023’s commercial success Byomkesh O Durgo Rahasya, which have received critical and commercial success and acclaim. Dasgupta is also influential in the OTT industry since he had directed critically acclaimed web series such as- OTT premium psychological series Mafia released on ZEE5 in 2020, national thriller-dark comedy-romance based series “Black Widows” directed for Hindi on Zee5. After directing web series he moved on directing a JioCinema Original Drama series- “The Magic of Shiri.” Dasgupta had also acted and had produced many films and a few of his web series.

Known for his style of cinematic direction and the versatility through various genres that he explores, Birsa Dasgupta stands to be one of the most promising directors of Bengali films and digital world in 2020.
