Babu Namboothiri (born 12 August 1947) is a retired Chemistry professor and former Head of the Department at Deva Matha College, Kuravilangad. He is also a well-known Indian film and television actor, having appeared in over 100 Malayalam films and various TV serials. Renowned for his versatile performances, Namboothiri is celebrated for his villainous and character roles, including his iconic portrayal of Thangal in Thoovanathumbikal (1987), Ajith, the main antagonist in Nirakkoottu (1985), the cunning advocate in Jagratha, and the evil businessman and drug dealer Madhava Menon in Cheriya Lokavum Valiya Manushyarum.
Born into the Padinjare Mana family in Mannakkanad, near Kuravilangad, Kottayam, he is the eldest of ten children of Neelakandan Namboothiri and Saraswathi Antharjanam. He performs rituals at the Chirayil Ganapathi Temple and has seven brothers and two sisters. Namboothiri graduated from Sree Sankara College and completed his Master’s in Science at SRM College, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. His acting debut came in 1982 with the film Yaagam.
Babu Namboothiri is married to Kumari Antharjanam, and the couple has three daughters. Regarded as an exceptional supporting actor, he is known for his ability to convey a wide range of emotions, contributing to several acclaimed films and leaving a lasting impression with his memorable character and antagonist roles.
