Ashim Ahluwalia

Biography:

Ashim Ahluwalia is an Indian director, producer, and screenwriter who is noted for his innovative style of filmmaking in the Indian film industry. Ashim is noted for mixing documentary style of filmmaking with fiction and creating unique movies that highlight the complicated people, subcultures, and worlds of India.
His first feature film as a director was a documentary John & Jane (2005), which won international acclaim and won the National Film Award for Best First Non-Feature Film of a Director. He released his critically acclaimed feature film Miss Lovely (2012), which premiered at the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival and highlighted the world of underground horror film industry in Mumbai of the 1980s. Later he directed the crime drama Daddy (2017), based on the life of gangster Arun Gawli, featuring Arjun Rampal.
Ahluwalia ventured into the OTT world with the teen drama series Class (2023) by Netflix. The series created, written, and directed by him is inspired by the Spanish show Elite and revolves around the theme of privilege, class conflict, crime, and relationship among the students of an elite Delhi School.
