Anoop Krishnan (born 7 May 1990) is an Indian actor, director, and anchor who predominantly works in the Malayalam film industry. He is best known for his role as Kalyan in the television series Seetha Kalyanam on Asianet.
Anoop participated in the third season of the Malayalam reality TV show Bigg Boss.
Born to Unnikrishnan K and K. M. Shobhana Devi in Pattambi, Palakkad, Kerala, Anoop has two siblings, Akhilesh Krishnan and Akhila Krishnan. He completed his primary education at AUP School, Muthuthala, and high school at PHS Pallippuram. He pursued vocational higher secondary studies at VHSE Koppam and graduated with a B.A. in Literature from SNGS & Co-Operative College, Pattambi.
On 23 January 2022, Anoop married his long-time girlfriend, Dr. Aishwarya Nair, at Guruvayur Temple.
Anoop’s acting career began in 2010 when he was cast in the film Face in Facebook, directed by Jibin George James. However, the project was not completed due to technical issues, prompting him to shift to anchoring live stage shows. Over time, he hosted more than 80 events across India and abroad, including the Malabar Mahotsavam, DTPC Onam Fest, and the National Games closing ceremony.
In 2013, Anoop acted alongside Mammootty in Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus and Praise the Lord. Though his roles in these films went unnoticed, he gained valuable experience.
In 2014, music director Sunny Viswanath introduced him to Padma Shri Balachandra Menon, which led to Anoop assisting Menon in his comeback film Njan Samvidhanam Cheyyum (2015). During this time, Anoop was cast as the lead in the Sanskrit film Ishti (2016), directed by G. Prabha. For this role, he trained in Kathakali Padam, crafted Kathakali ornaments, and lost 11 kg. Ishti garnered critical acclaim, earning him recognition at the Indian Panorama of the IFFI in Goa.
Anoop began creating short films, documentaries, and music videos in 2015, some of which aired on Malayalam TV channels. His documentary Raise of Hope focused on kidney disease awareness, created with the support of Dr. Jayant Thomas Mathew and Sunny Viswanath.
He continued to act in minor roles in films like Sarvopari Palakkaran (2017), Ennaalum Sarath..? (2018), and Contessa (2018). In Ammamarathanalil (2017), he played the male lead, gaining 8 kg to portray a middle-aged character.
In 2018, Anoop gained widespread fame for his lead role in the television serial Seetha Kalyanam on Asianet and Hotstar. His on-screen chemistry with Dhanya Mary Varghese earned them the Asianet Television Award for Best Pair. He was also nominated in the Best Actor and Popular Actor categories that year.
In late 2019, his short film De-javu was released on Christmas Day, receiving significant attention.
Beyond acting, Anoop is a cricket enthusiast and a member of the Celebrity team Kerala Strikers, participating in the Celebrity Cricket League.
