Anand Bakshi, born on July 21, 1930, was a prolific Indian lyricist renowned for his contributions to Hindi cinema. Hailing from a Mohyal Brahmin family, his family moved to Delhi and then settled in various cities due to the Partition, finally making Delhi their home. Bakshi’s early passion for poetry was mostly a private hobby, nurtured alongside his career in the Indian Navy.
Though he began his career with aspirations in writing and singing, Bakshi found immense success as a lyricist. His initial breakthrough came with the film “Mehendi Lagi Mere Haath” in 1962, followed by notable successes like “Jab Jab Phool Khile” (1965) and “Milan” (1967). He became a preferred lyricist for films featuring Rajesh Khanna in the lead role.
