Tanya Ravichandran

Biography:

Tanya Ravichandran, an Indian actress who was born Abbirami Sriram, has primarily appeared in Tamil-language movies. Nenjukku Needhi (2022), Balle Vellaiyathevaa (2016), Brindavanam (2017), and Karuppan (2017) all featured her in supporting roles.

Tanya, the granddaughter of Malaysian Tamil actor Ravichandran, was inspired by her grandfather’s work at an early age to pursue a career in movies. Tanya and her sister Apparajitha were trained in Bharathanatyam by their mother Lavanya Sriram, a classical dancer, and the two frequently performed in recitals in Chennai when they were teenagers.

She earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Chennai’s M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women and a Master of Social Work from Madras School of Social Work before to entering the film industry. Early in 2016, Tanya had her first successful audition for a Mysskin-directed film and was chosen to play the lead opposite fellow newcomer actor Maitreya.

She consented to Mysskin’s proposal that she switch from Abbirami to Tanya for her acting career. Later, the movie was put on hold so that Mysskin could finish Thupparivaalan (2017). Hearing that Tanya had been selected for a film by Mysskin, director Radha Mohan chose to screen test and then sign on the actress to appear in Brindavanam (2017) during August 2016.

However, Balle Vellaiyathevaa (2016), a rural comedy drama co-starring Sasikumar, was Tanya’s first release. She accepted this role when the producers saw the Brindavanam promotional images. Critics noted that Tanya “has nothing to do” and “sleepwalks through the role” in their evaluations of the movie’s December 2016 debut.
