Sonali Kulkarni

Biography:

Indian actor, producer, and writer Sonali Kulkarni was born on November 3, 1974, and she mostly works in Marathi and Hindi movies. She’s also done films in Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, and English. She is the recipient of multiple accolades, including four Filmfare Marathi Awards and a National Film Award.

In Pune, Maharashtra, on November 3, 1974, Kulkarni was born. Sandeep and Sandesh, her two elder brothers, are engineers, while her father works as an engineer. She was a student at Abhinava Vidyalaya before graduating from Fergusson College with a Political Science degree and a Marathi literary scholarship.

She has had eleven years of training in Bharatnatyam and four years of instruction in classical music. She attended a Satyadev Dubey workshop because she was interested in acting, and she and Sandesh went on to start the theater group Samanvay. Sandesh is currently employed as a director and is wed to Amruta Subhash, an actress from theater and cinema.

In addition to performing in a few non-Indian films, she has contributed to approximately 70 experimental and non-experimental motion pictures. One of the most versatile Marathi actresses, in our opinion, is her. Despite coming from a middle-class Maharashtrian household in Pune, Kulkarni had taken acting classes with Satyadev Dubey since she was a young child.

She debuted in a feature film, Cheluvi (1992), in Kannada at the age of 18. Later, she made her Marathi film debut in Mukta (1994). Doghi (1995), Daayraa (1996), and Gharabaher (1999) garnered critical acclaim after that. The former went on to win the Maharashtra State Film Award and the Filmfare Marathi Award.

She then acted in the Hindi movies Taxi Number 9211 (2006), Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000), Mission Kashmir (2000), and Singham (2011). In the Marathi-language short film Chaitra (2002), she portrayed a strong lady and won a National Film Award. She also garnered additional praise.

Kulkarni achieved more success in the following projects: Gulabjaam (2018), Ani… Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar (2018), Pune 52 (2013), The Good Road (2013), and Deool (2011). Her performances in the biographical film Dr. Prakash Baba Amte-The Real Hero (2014), the poignant drama Kachcha Limboo (2017), and the survival drama Pension (2021) have brought her three Filmfare Marathi Awards.

Kulkarni used to write a weekly column called So Kul for a supplement of the Marathi daily newspaper Loksatta in addition to performing. Her article book So Kul was published in 2010. She founded So kul Productions as well, which created the English and Marathi play WhileLily & Night.
