Amit Kumar

Biography:

Amit Kumar, born on 3 July 1952, is a prominent Indian playback singer, actor, and music composer. He launched his music production company, Kumar Brothers Music, and has made significant contributions to Bollywood and regional film songs since the 1970s. Amit Kumar is recognized for his work in over 150 Hindi and Bengali compositions by R. D. Burman. Following Burman’s death in 1994, Amit Kumar shifted his focus from playback singing to live orchestra shows.

Amit Kumar is the eldest son of the legendary singer-actor Kishore Kumar. Born in Gujarat to Kishore Kumar and Bengali singer-actress Ruma Guha Thakurta, Amit started singing at an early age. He gained national fame with the song “Bade Achchhe Lagte Hain” from the 1976 film Balika Badhu, composed by R.D. Burman. Amit recorded 170 Hindi songs under R.D. Burman’s music direction.

In the 1980s, Amit Kumar continued to deliver chart-topping hits with songs like “Ka Janu Main Sajaniya” and “Ram Kare Allah Kare.” His collaboration with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle produced memorable duets. He won a Filmfare Award for the duet “Yaad Aa Rahi Hai” with Lata Mangeshkar in the 1981 film Love Story.

Throughout the 1980s, Amit Kumar’s versatile singing style contributed to the success of numerous films, including Qurbani, Main Qatil Hun, Jawani, Akhir Kyun, Anokha Rishta, and many more. His solo and duet songs in hit films showcased his prowess and popularity in the music industry.

Beyond playback singing, Amit Kumar has ventured into acting and music composition. He has established himself as a multi-talented artist with a rich legacy in the world of Indian music and entertainment.
