Buzz: Can a Title Change a Film’s Fate?

Most Successful directors like SS Rajamouli, Prashanth Neel, and Sukumar have shown that having the right title is crucial for a Pan India movie’s success. They choose a single title that resonates with viewers across different all regions. However, some recent dubbed films have failed to get their perfect titles right, affecting their box office performance.

For example, Vijay Antony‘s Tamil film “Romeo” was titled “Love Guru” in Telugu, but the movie’s content doesn’t match the title. Similarly, the Tamil film “Aranmai 4” was titled “Baak” in Telugu, which doesn’t relate to the horror content of the movie.

Even GV Prakash‘s film “Dear” had the same title in both Telugu and Tamil, but its content was similar to the movie “Good Night”, affecting its prospects. On the other hand, directors like Shankar use different titles for sequels, considering the nativity factor. For instance, his film “Indian 2” fr titled “Bharateeyudu 2” in Telugu.

Maniratnam also used different titles for his films, like “Ponniyan Selvan” in both languages, but “Ok Kanmani” was titled “Ok Bangaram” in Telugu. However, his film “Chekka Chivantha Vaanam” was titled “Nawab” in Telugu for suitable, which didn’t resonate with viewers. The dubbed film’s title should accurately reflect its content to succeed. A well-chosen title can make a big difference in a movie’s success.
