Akshay Kumar’s latest movie, Sky Force, features him in the lead role and introduces Veer Pahariya as the hero. Directed by Sandeep and Abhishek, the film was released on January 24, coinciding with Republic Day. How well did it impress the audience? Did Akshay Kumar manage to break his streak of flops? Let’s find out the answers to these questions.
Sky Force Movie Story: Sky Force is set against the backdrop of the 1965 India-Pakistan war. The story revolves around pilot T.K. Vijay and the role he played in the war. It also shows how Group Captain Om Ahuja (played by Akshay Kumar) honors Vijay’s sacrifice. This forms the core of the movie’s storyline.
Performances: Veer Pahariya did a decent job for his debut film, but his acting didn’t completely match the depth of the character, making it less relatable. For Akshay Kumar, such roles are not new he has played similar characters before. Even in this film, he impressed as a commander deeply caring for his co-pilot, especially in the emotional climax scene. Sara Ali Khan performed reasonably well, while Nimrat Kaur had only a few scenes. The supporting cast gave their best performances overall.
Technical Aspects: Directors Sandeep and Abhishek focused more on the emotions in the story, but this led to the film falling short technically. Especially in scenes meant to prove why Vijay was so great, the emotions didn’t come through strongly. If those sequences had worked better, the movie could have reached another level. While Sandeep and Abhishek did okay as writers, they couldn’t fully impress as directors.
Justin Varghese’s background score was good. The production team didn’t compromise on quality in production design. The cinematography was well done, and the attention to color tones and grading successfully gave the film a proper period feel.
Analysis: While the movie had good emotional depth, the poor quality of graphics in key battle scenes became its biggest drawback. High-budget films, especially those involving fighter jet sequences, require extra care in visual effects. Today’s audience also watches Hollywood films and they expect top-notch graphics. The results can be disappointing if the visuals don’t meet expectations, as seen last year with Fighter. Despite this, the Sky Force team didn’t seem to take this seriously, leaving the movie feeling half-baked.
Verdict: Sky Force delivers strong emotional moments but falters in its execution, particularly in the technical aspects like graphics. While the performances, especially by Akshay Kumar, stand out, the subpar visual effects in crucial action sequences prevent the film from reaching its full potential. Overall, it’s a decent watch for its emotional depth but leaves much to be desired in terms of cinematic experience.
Bottom Line: Sky Force soars emotionally but crash-lands technically.
