Tollywood is known for experimenting every now and then with different concepts. There was a time when the top actors of the industry showed huge interest in experimenting, especially someone like Superstar Mahesh Babu.
In the last few years though, experimentation has become limited to only smaller actors, who haven’t achieved stardom yet, or to actors who juggle between experiments and formulaic films. In recent times, the best examples of playing safe gone wrong have to be Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Acharya and Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata to an extent.
Chiranjeevi chose a run-of-the-mill concept with Acharya, which has been tried and tested countless times in Tollywood, so much so that no one cared about the film upon its release. The film turned out to be a disaster, and with Chiranjeevi having a slew of remakes lined up, everyone is now worried if these will go wrong as well. On the other hand, Mahesh hasn’t experimented since Srimanthudu and has been sticking to the same savior complex drama, and movies with some sort of message. While SVP turned out to be safe for him, the formula may stop working for the actor very soon, if he doesn’t change tracks.
