TheatreA real incident that happened in the 1980s in the former Karimnagar district (now a part of Jagtial) served as the basis for the story of Jitender Reddy (Rakesh Varre). From his undergraduate years to his political career, Jitender, as he is represented in the movie, battles for the rights of the people.
Jitender starts to see that the Naxalites have strayed from their initial goal, which was to defend land rights and the wellbeing of the oppressed. This insight paves the way for his rebellion against them, which serves as the story’s central theme.Numerous Telugu films in the past, frequently based on liberal and left-wing ideals, have portrayed Naxalites as heroes. These kinds of stories are rarely shown on a large screen. Up till recently, Naxalites have generally been represented positively in Telugu cinema. Jitender Reddy, however, takes a risk by exposing the sinister aspects of naxalism.
The movie clarifies how these formerly idealistic leaders who professed to support the downtrodden have impeded their advancement and turned into barriers to societal advancement. From an early age, Jitender Reddy has been devoted to serving society. The intense campus politics of the 1980s, especially the emergence of student organizations like PDSU, are highlighted in the movie. The movie also shows how ABVP persevered in the face of difficulties. As demonstrated in the movie, Jitender finds inspiration in his mentor Goppana (Subbaraju), who sacrifices his personal life to work for societal improvement.
The film’s second half depicts Jitender’s ascent to political prominence and his final days.In addition to challenging the narrative of glorification of Naxalism, the film depicts his rebellion against the Naxalite danger. The story also emphasizes the difference between a real leader who fights for the welfare of the oppressed and political leaders who take advantage of them in order to win votes. The set design from the 1980s is exquisite and perfectly captures the spirit of the era. The narration is enhanced by the background music.
As previously stated, Jitender Reddy offers a fresh viewpoint on a frequently discussed subject. However, the film has problems and stumbles in its later scenes. A well-written screenplay may have improved the film’s performance and taken it to the next level. However, Jithender Reddy is a daring endeavor that appeals to young people.
