Orally, the Kerala High Court commented that Sunny Leone appeared to be innocent of any charges.
In a cheating case that was filed against actress Sunny Leone, her husband Daniel Weber, and her employee, the Kerala High Court stated on Thursday that it is inclined to throw out the criminal proceedings.
Orally, it was stated that Sunny appeared to be the victim of unnecessary harassment and that no criminal charges had been brought against her.
“What is the criminal offense in this? You are unnecessarily harassing the person (Sunny Leone). I am inclined to quash this,” the bench remarked.
After deciding that the investigation can go forward, the court eventually scheduled the case for March 31.
On November 16, 2022, the court stayed criminal proceedings against three people after a case was filed against them for cheating on the basis of a complaint from a Kerala-based event manager who claimed Sunny Leone did not perform at events despite being paid lakhs of rupees to do so.
Sunny and the others filed a motion with the High Court, asserting their innocence and the fact that the alleged offences would not be attracted even if the accusations were taken at their value.
The petitioners’ life are being negatively impacted by the case, according to their argument, even though the complainant has not suffered any losses as a result of the petitioners.
The argument also cited the complainant’s filing of a civil lawsuit with the identical claims, which was later dismissed by a magistrate’s court in July 2022 due to a lack of evidence.
They therefore filed a petition with the High Court asking for the actions against them to be quashed.
