Mythology fever is currently running high in the Indian film industry. Almost every film today is filled with references to mythology or divine elements. The latest addition to the list is Jatadhara, starring Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. Let’s see what the movie is about!
Jatadhara Story: Almost the entire story is revealed in the trailer. What is the relationship between Dhan Pishachi (Sonakshi Sinha) and Shiva (Sudheer Babu)? Why does she hold a grudge against Shiva? What does Shiva do to escape from the vampire? How does Lord Shiva intervene in this process? This forms the basic storyline of Jatadhara.
Performances: As always, Sudheer Babu has given his best, especially in the Shiva Tandavam sequence and emotional scenes. Sonakshi Sinha appears in the film but has very limited dialogue. She doesn’t get much scope in any of the songs either. Her screen presence is good, but her expressions fall short.
Bollywood actress Divya Khosla is not well utilized. The attempt to portray her as a fair-skinned woman has backfired badly. Subhalekha Sudhakar, Rajiv Kanakala, Ravi Prakash, Jhansi, and others justify their roles with their experience. Shilpa Shirodkar’s eyes are intimidating, but as an actress, she fails to entertain.
Technical Aspects: All the songs sound like dubbed Punjabi tracks. The special song feels particularly out of place. The Shiva Tandavam sequence also appears disorganized. Graphics, artwork, and production design are quite weak, especially in Sonakshi Sinha’s scenes where the visuals could have been better. The production values are very bad and it shows on the big screens. The editing is also below par.
Analysis: Directors Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal chose a good concept, but the execution lacks engagement. Some sequences are well-written in terms of twists, but poor direction makes them ineffective. The incorporation of mythological elements also misfires.
There’s nothing wrong with making a film that follows current trends, but inserting unnecessary elements just to appear trendy rarely works. Poor Sudheer Babu tried hard, but with an unengaging story, Jatadhara fails to impress the audience.
There is hardly any emotion in the film, and that is the reason Jatadhara looks clueless for the most part. Sudheer Babu does well, but he does not get more screen space. There are so many such issues that have been ignored by the makers. Just to make a film on fantasy and mythology with good actors is not enoug,h the execution needs to work, and that is missing.
Verdict: Overall, Jatadhara is a badly made film that falters in many aspects. Despite having a star-studded cast, nothing works in this forced drama and makes it a terrible watch.
Bottom Line: Nothing works
Jatadhara Rating: 1.5/5
