Dimple Kapadia, a seasoned actress, previously discussed her difficult personal life and how she came to the conclusion that her marriage to Rajesh Khanna was a mistake.
Dimple Kapadia, a seasoned actress, was a well-known name in the movie business. Rajesh Khanna, the first superstar in Bollywood, was her previous husband. When Dimple made her acting debut in Bobby with Rishi Kapoor in 1973, she got married to a famous person.
Dimple married the late actor but didn’t appear in another movie for more than ten years, during which time her marriage fell apart and she gave birth to two daughters. She married him at the age of 16, even though he was twice her age.
With the release of Saagar in 1985, Dimple Kapadia made a return. The actress talked about her difficult personal life at this time and how, after entering Rajesh Khanna’s home, she recognized her decision to marry him was a mistake.
Speaking about her life she said, “I came to know him precisely seven days before the marriage. We were going together to Ahmedabad for some kind of a show on a chartered flight. He sat next to me all along but did not utter a word. Just as the flight was about to land, he turned towards me, looked hard into my eyes, and said he wanted me to marry him. The life and happiness in our house came to an end the day Rajesh and I got married.”
After Bobby, she supposedly received an offer of Rs 5 lakh for each project, but the superstar allegedly prohibited her from acting. She said, “I was too young to realize the importance of Bobby for my career, but from the day I entered Rajesh’s house, Ashirwad, I somehow knew that the marriage wouldn’t work.”
Dimple Kapadia claimed that she was more worried about their relationship becoming a “farce” than she was about “the procession of women” Rajesh had in his life following their marriage. She said, “The marriage was certainly not based on any equality,” remembering how their arguments got worse as his career waned. In 1982, she went back in with her parents after divorcing him. In 2012, Rajesh Khanna passed away, and Dimple attended his burial.
