Tamal is an Indian director and screenwriter who graduated from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. Up until the end of 2016, he was heavily employed in the advertising sector. With his first feature script, The Gift, which was chosen for the 2016–17 NFDC Screenwriters Lab, Tamal made his professional screenwriting debut. After that, the script was submitted to the NFDC Co-Production Market, where it was given a 25% film budget. Kaali, a film from Parambrata Chatterjee’s Road Show Films that can be streamed on Zee5, was written entirely by Tamal.
At the time, it was the most popular regional program on Zee5, and it has since been dubbed in several languages. As a director, he created the endearing short film Dui Shalik, which was produced on a tight budget in two days. Most recently, Tamal finished work on Paatal Lok Season 2 for Amazon Prime Video and co-wrote the award-winning Netflix Original Mai, starring Sakshi Tanwar and produced by Clean Slate Filmz. He completed an AD shoot with Prosit Roy in 2023 for the upcoming film Chakda ‘Xpress, a biopic of cricket player Jhulan Goswami starring Anushka Sharma. At the moment, Tamal is working on an original drama series.
