Shakun Batra is an Indian writer, actor, and filmmaker who was born on January 1, 1983. The romantic comedy Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012) was his debut motion picture. Following this, he produced his first film, Gehraiyaan (2022), a noir romantic drama on Amazon Prime Video, and the ensemble family drama Kapoor & Sons (2016).
After making his film debut as a supporting actor in Don: The Chase Begins Again (2006), Batra went on to work as an assistant director on films such as Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008) and Rock On!! (2008), in which he starred as a supporting character named Nilesh.
Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012), an unconventional romance comedy, marked his writing and directing debut. The New York Times’ Rachel Saltz wrote, “The good news about Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is that it’s not offensive, sarcastic, or spiteful. Rather, it’s quite charming and occasionally even a bit surprising.
The ensemble family drama Kapoor & Sons (2016) was Batra’s subsequent motion picture. Namrata Joshi, who wrote for The Hindu, commented that the movie “keeps you riveted as you move from one family fight to another” and commended Batra for providing “a refreshing new voice to an old, tried and tested trope.”
