Sajid Kamran Khan, born November 23, 1970 is an Indian film director, television presenter, comedian, and actor known for his work in the Hindi film industry. He gained fame for directing the Housefull film series, Heyy Babyy (2007), and Humshakals (2014). Additionally, he served as a judge on the reality TV show Nach Baliye. He is the brother of renowned choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan.
Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Sajid is the son of former actor Kamran Khan and Menaka Khan (née Irani). His sister, Farah Khan, is a noted choreographer, director, producer, and actor, married to filmmaker Shirish Kunder. He also has deep ties to the film industry, as former actresses Honey Irani and Daisy Irani are his maternal aunts, while filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar are his cousins.
Sajid completed his schooling at Maneckji Cooper School in Mumbai and later graduated from Mithibai College. At 16, he began working as a DJ at various events while still in college. His television career started in 1995 as the host of Main Bhi Detective, followed by Ikke Pe Ikka (1996), which entered the Limca Book of Records as the longest-running Indian music countdown show with a single host. He also starred in Kehne Mein Kya Harz Hai (1997–2001), a comedy series where he played three roles. Other notable TV appearances include his stand-up show Sajid No. 1, Super Sale (2005), Sajid’s Superstars (2008), and as a judge on India’s Got Talent Season 2 (2010). He later judged Nach Baliye Seasons 5 and 6 (2012–2014).
Sajid made his directorial debut with a short segment in Darna Zaroori Hai (2006) and later directed his first full-length feature, Heyy Babyy (2007), followed by Housefull (2010) and Housefull 2 (2012), all of which were commercially successful. However, his subsequent films, Himmatwala (2013) and Humshakals (2014), were critical and commercial failures. Notably, all his solo directorial ventures have titles starting with the letter “H.”
As an actor, he appeared in Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate (1998) and had cameo roles in Main Hoon Na (2004), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), and Happy New Year (2014). In 2022, he participated in Bigg Boss 16, leaving the show on day 106 due to professional commitments.
During the filming of Housefull 2 in 2011, Sajid entered a highly publicized relationship with actress Jacqueline Fernandez, but they parted ways in May 2013.
In 2018, during India’s MeToo movement, multiple women accused Sajid of sexual harassment, including actresses and journalists. The allegations led to a temporary ban by the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association, which was lifted in December 2019. Denying the accusations, he stepped down as the director of Housefull 4 (2019), and Farhad Samji replaced him. The BBC documentary Death in Bollywood (2021) also featured allegations against him in connection with actress Jiah Khan’s suicide.
