Biography:

Pratim D. Gupta is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, journalist, and film critic who works primarily within the Bengali cinema and digital entertainment industries. Before he became a filmmaker, Pratim D. Gupta had worked for more than a decade as one of the best entertainment journalists and film critics in India, penning for well-known publications such as The Telegraph where he headed the movies section for its t2 supplement, and later Film Companion.

His first feature film direction comes in the form of the critically acclaimed Bengali drama Paanch Adhyay (2012), followed by films such as Saheb Bibi Golaam (2016), Maacher Jhol (2017), Ahare Mon (2018), Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo (2019), Love Aaj Kal Porshu (2020), and Chaalchitro: The Frame Fatale (2024). Gupta’s films have been well-known for their literary qualities, emotionally driven plots, and complex exploration of human relations and identity.

Pratim D. Gupta entered into digital entertainment when he directed Tooth Pari: When Love Bites (2023) on Netflix; a romantic supernatural fantasy that was written by him and which marked his Hindi web series debut. This was followed by Karma Korma (2025) on Hoichoi, a psychological culinary thriller web series written and directed by him. Known for his exceptional writing skills, rich characters with emotions and psychological drama combined with romance and mystery, Pratim D. Gupta has proven his worth in the contemporary Indian cinema and digital streaming entertainment.
