Biography:

Paliyath Jayachandrakuttan, known professionally as P. Jayachandran, is an eminent Indian playback singer and actor from Kerala. He’s had the privilege of collaborating with various renowned composers in the Indian music industry, spanning from G. Devarajan, M. S. Baburaj to A.R. Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja, among others. His repertoire includes over 10,000 songs across different languages, showcasing his versatility.

Jayachandran’s accolades speak volumes of his talent and dedication. He won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1986 and clinched the Kerala State Film Award an impressive five times. His remarkable contributions to Malayalam cinema earned him the prestigious J.C. Daniel Award in 2020, the highest honor in the realm of Malayalam cinema. He’s revered as one of the foremost expression singers in South India and has also received recognition with two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

Born on March 3, 1944, in Bhadralayam at Ravipuram, Kochi, Jayachandran hails from a family with musical inclinations. His father, a member of the Cochin royal family, was musically inclined, inspiring Jayachandran’s own passion for music. His education includes time at Christ College, Irinjalakuda, where he honed his musical skills and also attended the National High School in Irinjalakuda, earning accolades for his talent in playing the mridangam and light music at the State School Youth Festival.
