Indian screenwriter and filmmaker Nithilan Saminathan is employed in the Tamil cinema business. Kurangu Bommai[1], his debut film, and Maharaja, one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2024, are his most well-known works.
Santhamurthy Swaminathan was Nithilan’s birth name. He read an essay by Vairamuthu in class 12 that spoke about the song “Andhimzhai Pozhigiradhu” and how the word “Nithilam” appeared in its lyrics. Since Kannadasan had previously used the word, Vairamuthu reportedly objected to Kamal Haasan’s recommended substitute. This served as inspiration for Nithilan, who decided to use “Nithilan Swaminathan” for his cinematic career.
At first, Nithilan wanted to enlist in the military like his family, but his passion for movies and poetry eventually led him to pursue a career in filmmaking. He received a Visual Communication degree upon graduation
Nithilan learned about Naalaya Iyakunar Season 3 while searching for directing chances. He created a short film titled Pudhir after turning it meta. He produced seven other short films. His final round entry, Punnagai Vaanginaal Kanneer Elavasam, earned him the season three top prize.
In 2017, Nithilan made his directorial debut with Kurangu Bommai. It was praised for its directing and narrative. On June 14, 2024, Nithilan’s second movie, Maharaja, starring Vijay Sethupathi, was released following a seven-year break.
