Indian filmmaker Nelson Venkatesan has helmed Tamil-language motion pictures. After becoming well-known for the love drama Oru Naal Koothu (2016), he went on to produce feature films, such as the thriller drama Farhana (2023) and the comedic drama Monster (2019).
Before directing his first feature film, Oru Naal Koothu (2016), Nelson spent ten years working in the radio sector. Attakathi Dinesh, Miya George, and Nivetha Pethuraj played the key parts in this romance drama, which centered on modern marriages and included a very inexperienced ensemble. A reviewer from The Deccan Chronicle noted that “the movie has an engaging screenplay, powerful dialogues backed by intense performances and alluring music” when the film was released. It was later named one of the top Tamil films of 2016 by The Hindu. Nelson went on to create Monster, a comedy about a mouse breaking into a house that starred S. J. Surya. In 2019, he was then involved in the Tamil version of the Telugu movie Jersey, which was later shelved despite having Vishnu Vishal and Amala Paul on the cast list.
Aishwarya Rajesh played the lead in his third movie, Farhana (2023), which debuted to positive reviews. A writer for The Week wrote, “Nelson Venkatesan’s Farhana is like a breath of fresh air; a masterful narrative that weaves together the elements of mystery, intrigue, and psychological suspense, with a silken thread of emotion” . Venkatesan insisted that he did not use the main character’s “Islamic background for easy narrative pleasures” in spite of objections from Islamic pressure organizations during the movie’s premiere.
