Biography:

Minmini, born P. J. Rosily on 12 August 1970, is a renowned South Indian playback singer, best known for her notable contributions to the Tamil and Malayalam film industries. Her distinctive voice and memorable renditions have left a lasting impact on the music scene.

Minmini hails from Keezhmedu, Aluva, Kerala, and is the youngest of four sisters. Born to P. A. Joseph and Treeza, she was known as P. J. Rosily during her school years. Her musical journey began at the age of 5 when she joined Kalabhavan, a local orchestra, and started her singing career. She pursued her education at St Francis Girl’s High School in Aluva.

Minmini made her film debut in the Malayalam film “Swagatham” (1989), directed by Venu Nagavalli. She sang three songs in the film, composed by Rajamani. Her entry into the Tamil film industry was through the film “Meera” (1992), introduced by the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, who also gave her the stage name Minmini. She gained widespread recognition with the song “Chinna Chinna Aasai” from the film “Roja” (1992), composed by A. R. Rahman. The song became a massive hit, drawing attention to the Banatheertham Falls in Tirunelveli district, where it was shot.

Throughout her career, Minmini lent her soulful voice to numerous Tamil, Malayalam, and even a few Kannada film songs. Her versatility and emotive singing style established her as a sought-after playback singer. After a hiatus, she made a comeback in 2015 with the song “Kanmaniye” for the film “Mili,” composed by Gopi Sundar.
